Ashley Mastellar is the new WIC Girls’ Golf champ.
Ashley Masteller fell in love with the game of golf when she was just five years old, playing in family golf outings. She was ecstatic when she got the news that the high school created a girls’ gold team. Ashley became the manager for the girls golf team beginning in sixth grade. She would practice with the team and get to know the ins and outs of the team. She became an official member of the team her freshman year.
Mastellar received all-conference freshman, sophomore, and junior year. Last year, Masteller placed third in WIC, but this year came up on top. Masteller is the first girl to ever win WIC for Girls Golf. “State has been on my mind for a while, so winning WIC takes me one step closer,” Masteller said.
Ashley was not the only successful golfer, the whole girls’ golf team placed third in the conference. “I love them, it’s so inspiring to watch them,” Masteller said. “Some of them haven’t played golf for that long, but they are all still doing so great.” Before entering the match, Mr. Baughman told the girls via text “I’m proud of all of you,” and to “have fun.”
