A long bus ride was only the start to a long Saturday for the Lady Eagles as both the junior varsity and varsity teams suffered losses to the Sullivan Golden Arrows.
The JV match was a nail-biter in the first set. Even though the Eagles lost the first set there were plenty of bright spots. Macee Terry shined in the first set. Terry had 2 blocks and one kill followed by a deep and hard serve that forced the Golden Arrows to call a timeout. The serving run did not last long, though, giving the Golden Arrows serve with a score of 20-19. Audrey Willis’s serve for the Golden Arrows seemed to be impossible to return. It was a 4-serve run. Sullivan took the first set 25-24. The second set was a completely different story. Miscommunication and mental errors hurt the Eagles with a final set score of 18-25 and a match score of 0-2.
Without the help of two key seniors, Mekenzie Dunnuck and Baelyn Koester, the Eagles still got off to a hot start, replacing the two with sophomore Lauren Akles and freshman Abby Bowman. Chloe Lee was a key contributor in the first set win. Lee had 3 blocks and 2 kills alone. Senior Shea Keller also had an impressive outing with her serve, scoring 4 points in the first set on serves.
The Eagles were not the only ones with secret weapons. Asia Polvin had nine kills and Sullivan’s team captain Emma Royer had 5 aces for the Golden Arrows. Sullivan won the match 1-4.
