BCHS grad, parent raises $2725 to pay student lunch debts

Amber Dawdy, a graduate of Brown County Schools and parent of three daughters raised $2725 dollars toward forgiving student lunch debt through a Facebook fundraiser. The money was donated to the school corporation in a school board meeting on January 3.

Dawdy said that “School lunch debt seems to be something that hits every County,” in the original Facebook fundraiser post. Dawdy also said that it is the adults’ responsibility in the community to provide for the children, “I believe that it truly does take a village to raise a child and we just so happen to live in a very caring one.” Dawdy then went on to praise the school system’s ability to provide summer lunches for children in the county, “Our community does really well with making sure the children are fed through the summer.”

Superintendent Dr. Laura Hammack went on to showcase Dawdy’s fundraiser in a Facebook post on January 4. In the post, Dawdy and her family presented a check to the Brown County Schools Director of Food Service Jason Kirchoffer. “Ths is Amber Dawdy. She had an idea. She made it happen,” Dr. Hammack Said, “By doing so, she has blessed more families than she will ever know.”
