Whenever someone hears the song, “Highway to the Danger Zone,” they can’t help but picture themselves sitting in the backseat of a fighter jet, with Tom Cruise’s “Maverick” climbing into the front seat and taking off of an aircraft carrier.
Since 1986 “Top Gun” has been in the hearts and minds of Aviators everywhere, as it captures the imagination and stimulates the dreams of every speed lover out there.
Well, hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, because Top Gun is coming back in 2020.
Early on the morning of December 16, Tom Cruise tweeted out a second trailer for the new movie Top Gun: Maverick; featuring a much older (and supposedly wiser) troubled Maverick. It is unclear however from the trailers, what the plot of the movie is set to be, but it hints at the idea of Maverick returning to Top Gun, to teach new up and coming pilots from the next generation.
Cruise is not the only returning cast member from the original Top Gun, Val Kilmer is returning in the new movie as Maverick’s wingman, “Iceman.”
Along with the posted trailer, Cruise also tweeted out the poster for the movie, featuring an older Maverick on the wing of a P-51 Mustang, as two F-18’s pass overhead of his airstrip.
The movie opens in theaters on June 25, 2020.
